UNACHI

We have some Internet access at the universidad so it's time to blog! We went to the maternity hospital today and it was very interesting to see what technology they had there and the patient to nurse ratio. Our guide told us that at times it can be as high as 47 to 1! A lot of the patient's families were at the bedside though and did a lot of the work it seemed so there was less work for the nurses hopefully. We also saw some abandoned infants in the NICU, who had no one except the nurses to take care of them. One of the babies had been there a whole year.

After the tour of the hospital, the students of UNACHI gave us lunch and performed a cultural show for us in traditional dress. They performed several dances and some of us even got up on stage with them, myself included. The students were really friendly and some of us became Facebook friends so we could exchange pictures taken during and after the performance. After such a cultural filled day we ended in an American style at TGI Fridays.
