My First Days in Panama

I guess to start I will tell you about our first day. Upon arrival it was amazing to see the diversity among the city. The skyline was filled with numerous skyscrappers and then directly behind or next to them were buildings that looked as though they could fall any minute. From the airport we made a stop at the grocery store, what an experience. But to my surprise it had a lot of brands from the United States. Then, we arrived at La Ciudad de Saber, the City of Knowledge. It was sooo much nicer than expected, it had air conditioning! It really is a great place, I can´t wait to go back before we leave. It was an old army base that has been developed into a wonderful kind of resort. It has a park, pool, and gym.
On our next day, Saturday we played tourist. We got to see the older part of the city. We walked around, ate lunch and had a lovely time. That night, we went to a nice restaurant as a huge group of 25. It was fun! The next day we took an 8 hour drive to San Felix where we will be staying for the next 2-3 weeks. The drive, again, was not as bad as expected, and our living quarters are quite charming. Besides no AC, it is very nice. Monday, we drove all around seeing the different clinics that we would be helping out at. It was tedious, but interesting to see the environment in which the people work and live in. Tuesday, we went to UNACHI and spoke with nursing students from Panama. A long day, but it was evident of how big of a deal it was for them to have us there, what an honor.
Today, we had our first day at our clinic. All I can say is that I wait to spend more time there and get to interact with the people. I am exstatic and amazed with the people.
