Panama Experience

I arrived in Panama thinking that it would be similar to places I have been before like Ecuador, Honduras, and Costa Rica, and for the most part I was right. The houses are made of clay, the roads seem like they lead to nowhere, and the food looks as appetizing as a rattlesnake. However, one noticeable difference was how close together the wealthy and the poor live. While driving through Panama City, we came across what seemed to be a brand new multi-million dollar condominium and right next to it, not even twenty feet away, was a six story block of concrete that about two-hundred and fifty Panamanians called home. This place had no modern means of comfort such as, air conditioning, television, or Internet. It was amazing to me that wealth and poverty could dwell so closely together. Next, we came to the city of Chiriqui, which I have to say was a pleasant surprise. One could tell that they were driving on an actual road and the houses seemed comfortable to live in. Of course, there were some houses that looked like they are about a thousand years past their prime but there was no one living in those. The compound I am staying at could pass for an apartment complex back in the United States. I have clean water that is drinkable, a basketball court, and rooms that are quite spacious. So far, the trip is a very good experience.
